Anticipation Of The First Day

  • The students are a little nervous because they aren’t sure what to expect.
  • The teachers are a little nervous because they aren’t sure what they should expect.
  • The parents are a little nervous because they aren’t sure what they should expect.

What if everyone stopped focusing on things about which they aren’t sure? What if instead, we focus on what we know we can expect.

  • Students: There will be a teacher there. There will be other students. Even if you don’t know what is going on, you can follow someone else.
  • Teachers: There will be students there. You will get a break at some point. And the bell will ring at the end of the day.
  • Parents: Your kids will be gone for a while, and then they can tell you about their day when they get home.

The next time you are nervous because you don’t know what to expect from the future, focus on what you know that you can expect. You’ll figure out the unexpected if it happens. And if it doesn’t: you haven’t wasted time thinking about it.
