Are You Thinking Too Small?

What do you want to do? Who do you want to be?

We are living in an unprecedented time. Economies have ground to a near-halt. When we start to recover, people are talking about a 90 percent economy or worse. Right now is a very good time to think about how you want to put your signature on the next ten years.

Sometimes when we think about the future, we only imagine a portrait based on what we have experienced in the past. Our vision might look like the standard career path up a corporate ladder, or reproducible a product development-release-sales pattern. The exciting news is that the playing field was just levelled. Your skills and talents are just as unproven in the current pandemic situation as a major corporation. None of us have been here before, so we don’t have a template for what the next steps are going to look like.

So don’t think too small. Define what you want to do. What are your passions, skills, strong connection points, and unique talents? Then define who you want to be. Are you a linchpin, a supporter, or the leader of the pack? It doesn’t matter which one you are; we each have aspirations that fit us best. Then go and chase what you want to do and who you want to be. The competition will be fierce, but the winners won’t be the ones with experience, because none of us have experience in this. The winners will be those who were persistent, generous, empathetic, and valuable to others. I hope that is you.
