Being Seen

You may have heard the saying, “Children should be seen but not heard.” Some people carry this proclamation on their backs throughout their life. They feel that they should never stand out and never have a voice for themselves.

On the other hand, some people learned at a very early age that the only way they would be seen is if they made people hear them first. To be heard, these people learned to raise their voices and tell everyone very loudly about what they were doing. If these people are doing something, you’ll hear about it first. They will tell you what to look for, where to look for it, and how long you should keep your gaze fixed in that direction.

There is a third way to be seen: to do good work and share it with people. When you are sharing your work, you can talk about what you are doing. But you aren’t talking about the work because you want to alert other people to how good you are, you talk about your results because you want other people to be able to get the same results.

Do good work. Help other people to do good work. And the world will change. And you will be seen as a catalyst for this change.
