My Real-Life MBA

Let me explain where I am going this year.

I am at the point in my life where I have to decide whether I am going to get my Masters. I have done some work to figure out which Masters I would want to take. I think that the best Masters for anyone to take right now is a Masters of Economics. A Masters of Economics is a masters in big data and human behaviour. I don’t see any scenario where this combination would be bad. These are the skills to have in the new world.

But before I move into more formal education, I want to take a one year real-life MBA. Here’s what I am going to do: I am going to immerse myself in starting a business. That will be me, starting a community. I am going to work on building my Tribe as described by Seth Godin. I am going to document my journey as instructed by Gary Vaynerchuk. I am going to work on giving back to the world because “The world needs the special gift that only I have.”(Marie Foleo.)

I am going to put all of the energy that I would put into an MBA into my business in 2019. And at the end of the year, I’ll evaluate where I am. I expect that I will have learned a lot.

My biggest hope is that my real-life MBA rockets me forward. I would love to pursue another real-life MBA in the following year. If I had to dream, I would imagine that I skip taking a formal MBA. Maybe life will teach me enough to get by. I know that there will be stumbles and skinned knees. If I can keep moving forward, I’ll be content.
