Host every customer as if you are inviting them into your house. When you welcome someone into your house, you look out for them. You make sure that they are comfortable. You ask them what they want, and what they are interested in. You have a conversation because you are comfortable, and you want to make them comfortable.
Your customers understand that they are not the only customer you have. They know that you are busy. And most of them even know that you have to have to behave in a certain way to be profitable. That is why remembering that you are inviting each person into your space is so important. I might not change the speed at which you process customers. It may not even change the amount of time that you can spend with the customer. It will shift your focus from closing the transaction to making sure that people are comfortable.
Making your customer comfortable will be your differentiator. People who like to be with you, or deal with you, will come back to your business. People have unlimited choice. So they will choose the place that makes them feel the best. And if you focus on inviting people into your business in the same way that you would invite them into your home — that will make them feel good.
Be kind to your customers. Look out for them. Make them feel comfortable. And they will be excited to see you again next time.
